Who is Spence’s Girl?

Update:  While I don’t want to remove my earlier “About” content, I want to share that Spence passed away on March 4, 2017.  He was at home with hospice care and I held his hand as he took his last breath.  We had a life that was so much more than I could have asked for filled with love, adventures and humor. My life has changed forever but I’ll always be Spence’s Girl.

So who is Spence’s Girl? A work in progress, a student of life. Mistakes, I’ve made a few, but in the words of Sinatra, I did it my way.  Found Mr Right at 35, began an affair with wine at 40, retired just shy of my 58th birthday.  I’m a tall blonde, eclectic, cat adoring, quirky kind of gal who prefers to figure things out by trial and error rather than read a manual.  A skilled gourmet cook (just ask my mom) as a result of my heightened passion for food and an innate sense of creating meals without a safety net (as well as a profound addiction to the Food Network). I tend to write as I talk, over-using air-quotes, asides, hyphens and exclamation points to convey my enthusiasm since you can’t hear my voice.

“Why Spence’s Girl” you might ask?   Spence is 13 years my senior and I’m “Spence’s Girl” as the fellows at the VFW and American Legion refer to me (think Trophy Wife for the older crowd).  Life’s been an adventure because of Spence that I never could have realized without him. I love being Spence’s Girl!

  1. Hello Spence’s girl! Nice to find you at Writing101 and to read your post.
I read no manuals either. I live, and cook (not perhaps so skilled as you do) according to trial and error. I write as I cook, without recipes ( that’s in my about page too).
I like your honest, friendly and fun way of expressing yourself, and if you write like that, I am in. Following.
    Cheers!

  6. Hi Spence’s girl….I am making a brochure for our web design company and I saw your adorable picture of a kitty on a computer keyboard. Could you give me your permission to use this photo for my brochure?

  7. Hello there, Spence Girl. Greetings to you from PA. Happen to notice your Blog. What caught my eye was Retirement and your Husband having a Purple Heart hat on. I would like to THANK him for his service. Being a US Navy Vietnam Vet, him and many others gave alot for our Country. I am also retired, but I think that it’s not all that it’s built up to be. Cheers, Les
